The Bioenergiepark Hof/Saale is the largest biogas installation in Oberfranken and a showpiece for the production of biogas in the immediate surroundings of business and residential properties. i4r oversaw all the stages of financing, structured the financing in cooperation with other investors and extended their own commitment with capital of over 3 million EUR so far. The entire project has received investment of approx. 12.5 million EUR and was accomplished, working with prominent partners, in three construction stages.

The special distinguishing features of the Bioenergiepark are:
- Efficient Heating Concept with > 80% heat used for industrial processes, replacing over 7 million kW/h of energy from fossil fuels with clean bio-energy.
- Use of a mix of raw materials, not based on a mono-culture of maize, but resorting to communal vegetation, horse manure and other readily available biomass.
- Avoidance of emissions by using technology of the highest industrial standards.
- Long-term contract arrangements represent, along with the „Maisrente“ an important and secure alternative for cultivation by the local farming community.
The example of the Bioenergiepark Hof/Saale shows that bio-energy projects with their over-riding aims of climate and environmental protection can also act in accord with the objectives of investors and local interest groups.
